KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf central vice president and Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh on Wednesday said that Sindh was not a fiefdom of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and former president Asif Ali Zardari and they were answerable to the people of the province.

He said that the Sindh chief minister should tender his resignation due to his “mega corruption”.

He said the PTI would table a resolution of no-trust when ordered by Prime Minister Imran Khan to bring about change in Sindh.

He stated this while addressing a press conference in Sindh Assembly building along with PTI Karachi president Khurram Sher Zaman, parliamentary leader Bilal Ghaffar and other lawmakers.

He said that opposition and media have got a very important role in highlighting the problems of the people. He added that the parties who made Charter of Democracy were themselves “violating” it.

“Murad Ali Shah is answerable to six crore people of Sindh, because it is democracy and this is not a kingdom of Murad Ali Shah and Asif Ali Zardari,” he quipped.

Mr Sheikh said that the rulers of Sindh would have to tell where Rs7,880 billion was spent in 12 years and Rs957bn in 10 years.

He said normally nowhere courts annulled laws passed by an assembly, but they made three laws and the Supreme Court of Pakistan annulled them.

‘Opposition lawmakers ignored in Sindh’

He said a law for use of auto-lock syringe was passed, but not implemented.

He said a law of compulsory education was passed, but six million children were not getting education.

He said the public accounts committee should be given to the leader of the opposition but in Sindh Assembly no opposition member was included on such committee.

“Their standards change when they are in the National Assembly.”

Haleem Adil said in Sindh Rs80bn was devoured in the name of subsidies. He said Rs2bn subsidy was given on wheat. That subsidy was given to tractors to benefit the Omni Group, he alleged.

He said in Sindh there was corruption of billions of rupees in wheat sector and Nisar Khuhro was on bail in this scandal while Murad Ali Shah was facing a NAB probe.

He said corrupt officers after plea bargain were posted on lucrative jobs. He said education, healthcare, law and order and all others sectors in Sindh were in shambles.

There is corruption in every department but no action is being taken against corruption mafia.

No basic necessities for Karachi citizens

Khurram Sher Zaman said they had been raising a voice for the people of Sindh for the past eight years. Karachi’s citizens are not being provided basic necessities of life, he added.

He said public transport in Karachi was in poor state and local government department was being utilised for political purposes of the ruling party.

He lampooned a survey that showed only ‘75’ stray dogs were present in Karachi.

He said in Karachi the youth were not getting jobs.

He asked should these unemployed youths get involved in crime. He appealed to the chief justice to take suo motu notice of it.

Bilal Ghaffar said in Sindh the economy went strong in 2020 and IT sector prospered a lot.

He said FBR had completed its targets.

He said 32 per cent budget of the federal government was spent on development. He said in Pakistan economy would grow stronger in the coming days.
