KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday announced that more than Rs3 billion of the Coronavirus Emergency Fund (CEF) that had been set up by the provincial administration in March 2020 had been consumed.

This emerged at the CEF committee meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah and attended by its members, Indus Hospital chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Abdul Bari, Faisal Edhi of the Edhi Foundation and senior officials of the health and other relevant departments.

“The CEF collected Rs3.68 billion,” said a statement issued by the chief secretary office after the meeting. “Through these funds isolation centres were set up and medical equipment and medicines procured. The funds were spent in a transparent manner which was audited by an independent auditor.”

The meeting decided to send a summary to the Sindh chief minister with all relevant details of spending and working of the CEF and its committee.
