LAHORE: A worker died of severe burns after a fire broke out in a shoe manufacturing factory on Bund Road early on Monday.

The fire also damaged furniture, machines and other valuables.

The fire broke out at around 6am while the Rescue 1122 recovered the burnt body of the worker some three hours after the incident.

According to the Rescue 1122 spokesperson, 15 workers of the agency and three vehicles were dispatched to the spot.

He said dense smoke accumulated in the factory created some issues for the crew to complete the work timely.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was allegedly shot dead while three others injured in two separate incidents in the provincial capital here on Monday.

In Batapur area, Subhan (30), a resident of Dogran Kalan, was going to a local market when two armed men riding a bike opened fire on him.

A police official said Subhan got multiple bullet wounds in the firing and died instantly while the attackers fled the scene.

He said the family of the deceased man told the police that he had no enmity with anyone in the area.

The police sent the body to the city morgue for autopsy and started investigation into the incident after lodging a murder case.

He said in the Racecourse area, a local resident, Hayamun Gujjar, shot at and injured a man, Fahad, and his two brothers Faizan and Sohaib after a physical clash on a petty issue.

He said the attacker fled the scene leaving all three brothers injured in the street who were later shifted to a local hospital where the condition of one of them was stated to be critical.

The police arrested the attacker and registered a case against him, he said.

GAS LEAKAGE: Six members of a family, including four minors, received burn injuries when gas leakage caused an explosion in their house in Nishtar Colony here on Monday.

The incident occurred in Jhattol village when gas had accumulated in a room where four children were playing.

A police official said that the room did not have windows and the door was also closed, so as soon as a woman lit a matchstick, a blast occurred. A fire soon engulfed the whole room and injured the children, including Zahra, Tahira, Nasir, and Shan.

Akhtar Bibi and Naziran, who were also present there, were also burnt, the official said, adding that all of them were in a stable condition at a hospital where they were shifted by Rescue 1122.
