LARKANA: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that the performance of local government in Larkana was witnessing certain betterment, though a huge effort is still required to do more for further improvement.

Speaking to the media along with Irrigation Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal after presiding over a meeting at the commissioner’s office here on Saturday, he said “we are here to assess the pace of development in the light of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s directives”.

Mr Shah pledged that the reverse osmosis (RO) plants installed in the city would be put in operation by the public health department.

“In line with the idea of ‘safe city’, a modern system will be put in place in Larkana to address the issue of solid waste management,” he said, and added that shortly the Larkana unit of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) would be put in operation after fulfilling its requirements.

Mr Shah and Mr Siyal also visited Rice Canal and asked the officials concerned to improve the sewerage system. Mr Shah asked them to stop release of sewage into the canal and ensure plantation of trees along its both banks in order to address environmental issues.

Employees of the Larkana district council met the LG minister and drew his attention to the non-payment of their salaries and freezing of routine promotions. The minister assured them that their issues would be addressed.

Larkana Commissioner Shafique Mahesar and local PPP leaders along with Jamil Soomro, the political secretary of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, reviewed the pace of development schemes in Larkana during the meeting at commissioner’s office.
