RAWALPINDI: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) has launched an exclusive webpage tilted ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Corner’ to spread knowledge about the disease.

Breast cancer has emerged as the most widespread type of cancer among women in Pakistan. Roughly, one in eight women are likely to develop the disease in their lives and almost 30pc are currently battling with it.

Only a few institutions and hospitals are providing information regarding the disease. The webpage has been designed and developed by the information technology department under the supervision of vice chancellor of FJWU Dr Saima Hamid.

Other team members include Dr Azra Yasmin, dean Faculty of Law, Commerce, Management and Administrative Sciences, Dr Huma Jahangir, medical officer, Dr Nosheen Masood and Dr Nargis Bibi.

Ms Hamid, while speaking at the launch ceremony, said the most important thing to remember is that information and early detection can play a significant role in the cure of this disease.

People are misguided by different kinds of alternative unscientific methods and due to lack of knowledge and misleading information, they are suffering, she said, adding it is our responsibility as members of the civil society to spread awareness. Delay in treatment, she said, leads to the cancer spreading further and makes treatment even more challenging.

The page will be updated on a regular basis, she added and appreciated efforts of team members.
