ISLAMABAD: As city police get new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (operations), the Islamabad police issued its fortnightly performance report with an objective to informing people about policing efforts to ensure protection to their lives and property.

According to a notification issued from the office of the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officer Afzaal Ahmed Kauser has been appointed as DIG Operations.

On the other hand PSP officer Waqaruddin Syed, who was serving as DIG Operations, has been posted as DIG Security.

Meanwhile, performance report was formally launched by the Director Public Relations of Islamabad Police, Syed Bilal during an interaction with mediapersons at Rescue 15.

He said after assuming the charge on Jan 8, 2021 as Inspector General of Police, Qazi Jamilur Rehman ordered several measures to ensure effective policing.

The main objective of these reforms and measures were to present Islamabad police for accountability, resolve public complaints and highlight policing efforts for friendly police ecology along with their success story.

He said the main steps taken during the last 15 days included the appointment of SSP (Investigation), SSP (Operations) and outlining criteria (test and interview) for appointments of SHOs and Muharras.

“During the last same period, Islamabad police (Operations) nabbed 27 suspects and also busted five gangs besides recovering valuables including cash and gold ornaments worth Rs3.8 million from them. All the recovered items were handed over to their actual owners,” he said.

A total of eight suspects, wanted to police for their involvement in high profile cases including four murders, were arrested.

As per details, the main suspect involved in the murder of German national was arrested and murder tool was recovered from him while two other suspects were arrested in truck driver and his cleaner murder case. Police also held three persons found involved in murder of an employee of security agency during a robbery attempt at One Dollar Shop in sector F-10.
