RAWALPINDI: Police arrested a man for allegedly pretending to be a member of the peace committee, while driving a luxury vehicle on which an unauthorised revolving red-and-blue light and green registration plate was affixed, in the jurisdiction of Race Course police station on Thursday.

A police spokesman said the vehicle was signalled to stop by a patrolling party at a checkpoint in Saqlain Shaheed chowk but the driver ignored police and continued his journey. Station House Officer Mian Imran, told Dawn that the driver finally stopped the vehicle after a brief chase.

During questioning, the man in the driving seat said he was a member of the peace committee but could not justify affixing unauthorised revolving lights on his vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was a property dealer by profession; he was taken into custody and his vehicle was confiscated.

A case has been registered against him.

Meanwhile, Airport Security Force intercepted a visitor at Islamabad International Airport and recovered a pistol with five live rounds from his custody.
