KARAK: A polio vaccination team came under attack in the Latamber area of Karak district on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a police constable while the health workers remained unhurt.
Police sources said that Constable Junaidullah Khan was on security duty with the polio vaccination team when attackers opened fire on them. As a result, Junaidullah was killed on the spot.
The attack came on the second day of a five-day national immunisation drive.
The attackers escaped while taking away the official gun of the constable, sources said.
Police and personnel of Rescue 1122 shifted the body of Junaidullah to hospital for post-mortem. An FIR about the incident was registered at Latamber police station against unidentified assailants.
On contact, Karak District Police Officer Irfanullah said that the assailants had not been identified yet.
Funeral prayer for Junaidullah was offered at the Karak Police Lines and attended by officials and locals. Later, his body was shifted to his native Mianki Banda village for burial.
