LAHORE: Actor Zahida Malik, famously known as Veena Malik, has filed a defamation suit against her former husband and claimed damages worth Rs1 billion for allegedly running a defamatory campaign against her.

In the suit, the actor has stated she married defendant Asad Bashir Khattak and had two children — Abram Khan, 6, and Amal Khan, 5. How ever, the marriage was dissolved by way of khula on May 26, 2017.

Malik said she lawfully got custody and guardianship of her children from a court, but alleged the defendant requested her to meet the children and fraudulently took them to Dubai.

Later, she won custody of the minors from the courts of Dubai also and brought them back to Pakistan.

She pleaded that the defendant not only uploaded her confidential information on social media, but also ran a malicious campaign against her, which damaged her reputation and caused mental torture.

She asked the court to order the defendant to pay her damages of Rs1bn.
