KARACHI: A man allegedly killed his mother and family servant in Bahria Town on Motorway-9 (Superhighway) and later committed “suicide” by shooting himself, said police on Friday.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that 27-year-old Shumail Hayat opened fire on his mother Salma Kausar, 45, and his family servant Mohammed Farooq Khoso, 24, inside their home in Bahria Town.

They both died on the spot. Subsequently, he allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself to death.

The officer said that Shumail was found in critical condition, but he died while being taken to hospital.

The senior officer added that it had been “verified” that Shumail Hayat had killed his mother and the servant, but it was being investigated as to whether the suspect had been killed or he had committed suicide.

Tutor held over allegations of child pornography

Quoting family members, SSP Bahadur said that the deceased Shumail was an “emotionally disturbed” person.

The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Religious tutor arrested over child pornography

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday claimed to have arrested a religious tutor over allegations of child pornography and harassing a teenage girl.

“The FIA’s Cyber Crime Circle conducted a successful raid in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and arrested the suspect,” said additional director of FIA Cybercrime Reporting Centre Karachi, Faizullah Korejo.

The FIA said that a “brave mother” reported that she had appointed a qari (religious teacher) for home tuition to teach her children.

Later, her 13-year-old daughter complained to her mother that she had been “physically abused” by the qari. The teenage girl also complained that the accused also took her obscene pictures and on their basis, he was trying to harass and blackmail her and demanding money.

The suspect sent the obscene pictures of the girl to her mother through WhatsApp.

“The suspect was threatening the family that if his unethical demands were not fulfilled, he would [make the] obscene pictures viral on social media.”

The FIA through a stress counsellor also provided psychological and emotional help and support to the victim girl, the official added.

After getting approval from the competent authority, a formal raid was conducted by a raiding team in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

“The qari has been intercepted on the spot by the raiding party.”

The recovered mobile phone was technically analysed and obscene images of the victim/minor girl were found in it and on their basis she had been blackmailed, harassed, threatened, the FIA added.

The suspect has been booked under Sections 22 and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 and Section 109 (abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Man found shot dead

A 28-year-old man was found shot dead in Gadap on Friday.

Police said the body of the man identified as Nawaz Ali with bullet wounds was recovered from bushes near Lucky Cement off M9.

The SSP Malir said that the initial probe revealed that the murder was motivated by personal enmity.

Burnt body of old man found

An 84-year-old man was found dead in Malir Cantonment on Friday, said police.

They added that the burnt body of Zaman Khan was found at Hyderabad Lines Quarters opposite the Station HQ Malir Cantonment.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that the complainant son told the police that when he came home he found his father lying dead on a charpoy (bed) with burn wounds.

The police were probing as to how he suffered burns and what were possible reasons, added the senior officer.

Later on, Malir Cantonment SHO Faisal Latif said that initial investigation revealed that a fire broke out in the home early on Friday morning, resultantly the old man suffered burn injuries and died. He was father of the army man.
