HYDERABAD: The dialysis centre at Bhitai Hospital Latifabad has been made functional after a long time by the civil administration in order to benefit a large number of patients depending on dialysis.
The centre was established at the hospital several years ago and after working for some time, it had become non-functional. Initially, five machines were installed at the centre, medical superintendent Dr Syed Zawar Shah of the hospital said.
He said that donations collected from philanthropists enabled the hospital to resume the dialysis services.
He said the Sindh government was being approached for grant to continue running the centre.
Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Fuad Ghaffar Soomro had in the past made recommendation in this regard to the provincial government.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the DC said he had also recommended setting up of a committee to supervise work at the hospital in a proper manner and take care of its issues.
Commissioner Abbas Baloch said efforts were also under way to start services at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) in the city. He said delivery of services at the institute was suffering delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic-related issues.
