KARACHI, Sept 4: In pursuance of the recommendations of the Honourable Chief Justice of Sindh High Court conveyed through letter, the provincial government has conferred powers of Special Judicial Magistrate upon the following officers of all the district governments in the province under Section-144 of CrPC 1898 to summarily try the offences under the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 1977 and Ehtram-i-Ramzan Ordinance 1981 for a period of 90 days with effect from Ramazan 1, 1426.

According to a notification issued by the provincial home department, all EDOs (E&IP); all Deputy District Officers of E&IP, Revenue, Law; all Mukhtiarkars (revenue), and all Town Municipal Officers will be designated the powers.

The powers are vested with following terms and conditions:

The officers so appointed shall be designated as Special Judicial Magistrate. They will work under the direct control and supervision of the respective Sessions Judges, and that after the expiry of 90 days, pending cases, if any, will stand transferred to the normal respective Courts who will take up the matter from the stage they were left. —PPI
