KARACHI: The administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts on Tuesday remanded in police custody a suspect, who had allegedly killed an undertrial prisoner on the court premises in Malir.
Police detained and booked Kifayatullah for allegedly murdering Khushdil, who had been facing trial for murder of Kifayatullah’s son, outside the courtroom in Malir on Monday.
Kifayatullah allegedly killed Khushdil to seek revenge for his son’s murder.
On Tuesday, the investigating officer produced the suspect before the ATCs’ administrative judge to seek his physical remand for interrogation and investigation.
The IO mentioned that the suspect was arrested after allegedly murdering Khushdil, who had been charged with murdering Kifayatullah’s son, by shooting outside the courtroom of the district and sessions judge (Malir), who was scheduled to pronounce his judgement in the murder case.
He further mentioned that during interrogation the detained suspect had allegedly confessed to his crime, adding that a weapon was also recovered from his possession.
The IO informed that the suspect, who had been booked for allegedly committing premeditated murder and causing terror, was required to be further interrogated.
Therefore, he asked the judge to grant 14-day physical remand of the suspect to the police to complete the investigation and other legal formalities.
However, the judge remanded the suspect in police custody till Dec 23 with direction to the IO to produce him on the next date along with an investigation report.
Khushdil was arrested for allegedly killing Kifayatullah’s son, Ahsan Ali, in Quaidabad in 2016.
