LAHORE: Twenty-two people died while 654 more tested positive for the Covid-19 during the last 24 hours in Punjab, which increased the number of tests to more than 18,000 per day.

Of the new cases, 176 were reported in Lahore, 161 in Rawalpindi, 48 in Bahawalpur and 39 in Multan.

Other cases were reported from Sialkot, Mandi Bahuddin, Sargodha, Attock, Rajanpur, Sheikhupura, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Khushab, Pakpattan, Jhang, Bahawalnagar, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, DG Khan, Bhakkar, Kasur, Muzaffargarh, etc.

The total number of the confirmed cases in Punjab is now 117,160 while the number of death is 2,945 since the start of the pandemic.

A spokesperson for the health said that the health authorities conducted record 18,198 Covid-19 tests in Punjab in a day while the province was earlier conducting about 12,000 tests per day.

He said Lahore topped in Punjab in terms of the disease burden by reporting 57,741 positive cases of the virus while Rawalpindi had 10,533 cases, Multan 7,843, Faisalabad 6,574 and Gujranwala 4,167.
