GUJRANWALA, Oct 1: A local court recommended action against a Federal Investigation Agency inspector for changing offence under Passport Act to benefit alleged human smugglers, and sent the accused to jail here on Saturday.

Reports said FIA Inspector Muhammad Asif arrested an accused Muhammad Ijaz Bhatti for his alleged involvement in human smuggling and registered a case against him under section six of the Passport Act.

Later, the inspector changed the offence in the case and also arrested five other people, Zaka Ullah, Aman Ullah, Javed, Sana Ullah and Ilyas.

The inspector also violated the jurisdiction of court and produced the accused in a local court to get their bails, instead of special FIA court, Lahore.

However, Judicial Magistrate Usman Hameed Warriach took serious note of the violation by the inspector and recommended FIA Punjab director to take action against the official. The court sent the accused to jail.
