FAISALABAD, Oct 1: Brig Arsalan Ali Khan (retired), the chairman of the Chief Minister Inspection Team, on Saturday adjourned the proceedings of the Faisalabad excise and taxation department scandal and the charges two senior police officers levelled against each other during the course of original case hearing. The next date would be fixed shortly.

The personal staff officer to the CMIT chairman told Dawn on telephone that former Faisalabad DIG Sajjad Ahmad appeared before the team and moved an application seeking details of the allegations to be able to submit his reply.

The committee chief has called the excise and investigation police officials directly involved in the scam.

He reportedly directed suspended SP Abdullah Khalid to present evidence and documentation for establishing allegations of corruption against former DIG Sajjad Ahmad.

SP Abdullah while recording of his statement before the one-man judicial tribunal constituted to probe the Sonia Naz rape case and motor registration scandal had blamed Mr Ahmad of patronizing a qabza mafia. The former DIG, in turn, accused the SP of committing serious irregularities while investigating cases.

SP’s BAIL: Meanwhile, the pre-arrest bail issue of accused Abdullah Khalid could not be taken up by a local court and it was adjourned till Oct 7.

The accused, accompanied by his counsel, appeared in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sadaqatullah Khan, but he was on leave. The case was referred to the duty judge, who adjourned the hearing and asked the accused to appear before the original court.
