SHEIKHUPURA: Four people died and two suffered injuries in an accident on GT Road here on Sunday.

A family was going to Gujranwala from Lahore by a pickup when a truck hit their vehicle near Kala Shah Kaku. The vehicle skidded off the road and overturned as a result of which Ali Raza, Adil, Osama Ashraf and Badar died on their way to hospital, while Hamza and Waqas suffered injuries.

The area people held a demonstration against what they said the traffic police negligence in checking speeding by vehicles and demanded that the IGP depute a competent police official as district traffic in-charge as soon as possible.

ARRESTS: A team of the Anti-Corruption Establishment has arrested six officials of the irrigation department for their involvement in misappropriation of funds, bogus appointments of grade four employees and various other irregularities.

Imtiaz Akbar Bhatti, executive engineer, and his subordinates during their tenure in Sheikhupura got salaries through ghost employees.
