LAHORE, Sept 30: Chairman Tariq Karmani has said PIA has not been doing enough for the last three decades to compete and live up to its past reputation.
He was addressing the officers and staff of the Lahore region here on Friday.
He said PIA had a good record till the mid 1970s when Karachi was a regional hub and the airline enjoyed monopoly.
The new technology brought in better aircraft and the oil boom in the Middle East changed the dynamics of regional aviation business.
Mr Karmani said it was easier to close destination after destination if the planes were not filled up to their capacity. He stressed the employees not to maintain status quo as it would lead them nowhere.
“We should treat our airline in the manner as we treat ourselves; run it in the way we used to run our businesses and look after like our homes,” he said.
The chairman said the PIA staff had talent and expressed the hope that they would compete and bring back its past glory.
