LAHORE: Police arrested on Monday a gunman after he shot two real brothers dead inside “bakhshi khana”, the lockup for under-trial prisoners, of the sessions court here.

The arrested man, identified as Muhammad Kafeel alias Balli, claimed before the police that he killed Riyasat Nazir and Bilal Nazir to avenge murder of his mother.

The police also recovered the murder weapon from the suspect, who made no attempt to escape after the double murder.

The suspect, who is a resident of Nishter Colony, Ferozepur Road and runs a gym, was later shifted to Islampura police station.

A team of Rescue 1122 shifted the dead bodies to the city morgue.

Police operations wing Deputy Inspector General Ashfaq Ahmad also rushed to the sessions court on being informed of the incident and inspected the crime scene.

The police are investigating as to how the attacker managed to enter the court premises with a weapon. He ordered the police personnel to beef up the court’s security.

District & Sessions Judge Sajjad Hussain also took notice of the incident and sought a report from the DIG.

The officers-bearers of the Lahore Bar Association expressed serious concern over the loopholes in the security on the court premises. They regretted such incidents had become a routine and police failed to ensure safety of the litigants inside the sessions court.
