RAWALPINDI: Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mahmood on Saturday said work on Daducha Dam would commence after taking the local people into confidence and removing their concerns.

He expressed these views during a meeting with affected people of Daducha Dam along with local PTI leaders at the commissioner’s office.

Mr Mahmood said the dam was of special importance to the people of Rawalpindi and was indispensable for their water needs.

He said the main reason behind holding consultation with the people affected by the project was to work in accordance with all their legal and constitutional rights.

PTI MNA from Murree Sadaqat Abbasi said talks were being held with the affected people in the presence of public representatives and the PTI government should make progress on this important project keeping in view the aspirations of the people.

He said Daducha Dam was imperative for the people of Rawalpindi as not only the population had increased but also the groundwater level was declining.

The affected people informed the commissioner and MNA Sadaqat Abbasi about their concerns.
