LAHORE: Editor-in-Chief of Jang Group Mir Shakilur Rehman was released from the jail on Wednesday as he furnished a bond of Rs10 million along with two sureties with an accountability court in light of the bail granting order by the Supreme Court.

The SC had allowed post-arrest bail to Rehman two days ago in a 34-year-old land allotment reference filed against him and others by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The court had ordered him to furnish the bond and also to surrender his passport to the trial court. A number of journalists reached the Kot Lakhpat jail to receive the media mogul.

The NAB had arrested Rehman on March 12 while he was sent to jail on judicial remand by the trial court on April 28. The Lahore High Court had denied him post-arrest bail on July 8. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and two ex-officials of LDA are also nominated suspects in the reference.
