LAHORE: Thaap and Ma Boli Centre at the Institute for Art and Culture are holding a one-day event and bringing together a group of artists, academics and scholars for presentations and performances focused on the role of mother languages in the creative processes and cultural expressions.

This event will be held at 43-G, Gulberg II, Lahore, on Saturday, Nov 14. It will start at 10am to continue till 8pm.

A panel discussion on the topic of Finding the Inner Voice: Learning, Creativity, and the Role of Mother Language would include Naveed Alam (poet, translator), Kainat Thebo (filmmaker), Abdur Rehman (graphic designer/illustrator) and Imran Ahmed (sculptor, educator).

The second panel discussion would be on the Struggle for Survival: The Future of Mother Tongues in Pakistan. The panelists would include Dr Tariq Rahman (dean School of Education, Beaconhouse National University), Dr Anjum Altaf (economist, academic, author), Dr Zahara L’écuyer (anthropologist, author, National Institute of Eastern Languages & Civilizations (INALCO), Paris), Mushtaq Soofi (Punjabi writer) and Zubair Torwali (community activist, linguist, educator of Dardic Languages and cultures). It would be moderated by Naveed Alam.

The event will end with colorful musical performances by Thaap Choir.
