Issues at ICP

THE Islamia College, Peshawar, which is now a university, happens to be one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Pakistan. It is rather sad that this platform of learning has fallen on bad days and it is the faculty and the administration that are most to blame.

The students in final year literally have to beg teachers to check their papers so that they can receive their final transcript on time and seek admission in other programmes or apply for scholarships and jobs. A transcript that can be prepared within no time takes a week and more.

The MS/MPhil admissions in other universities are in progress while ICP students are still awaiting an announcement in this respect. Meanwhile, the institution has been closed for an indefinite period after two groups of students fought in the canteen and resorted to the use of firearms.

Also, lower-grade employees of ICP are on strike to press for the acceptance of their demands, and important sections, like library, accounts and department offices, remain mostly closed.

The provincial government is requested to resolve the issues afflicting this fine educational institution.
