Punjab IGP wants data on ex-officials supporting land mafia

LAHORE: Inspector General of Punjab Police Inam Ghani has directed to prepare a fresh list of land grabbers to initiate crackdown on them all over the province.Issuing a letter to all regional police officers, district police officers (DPOs) and the Lahore capital city police officer, the IGP directed them to complete data of retired government officials [allegedly] patronising the land grabbers.

Mr Ghani said there were multiple complaints that many retired government officers and other influential were providing shelter to the land mafia while misusing their social positions and powers to illegally occupy government, commercial and residential lands.

“We need the identity of such persons, criminal records, address, apparent occupation/livelihood, phone numbers and lands or properties occupied by them”, he said adding that it should also be ensured that whether it is commercial, residential or agricultural land.

It should be written with which government officer, this mafia has a relationship/partnership, he said.

All the details based on necessary information should be sent to the Central Police Office by Oct 28.
