KASUR: Changa Manga police on Sunday arrested an elderly couple for allegedly desecrating the holy Quran in Rehmanpura locality.

Police recovered several copies of the Quran from the residence of the couple and lodged a case a few hours after the incident.

Meanwhile, scores of people in Phoolnagar staged a demonstration demanding registration of a blasphemy case against the suspects. A first information report (FIR) was lodged under Section 295-B of PPC on the complaint of Afzaal Ahmed Anjum of Rehmanpura.

The complainant, who runs a timber business in front of the house of the suspects, alleged in the FIR that he had been receiving information for over a month that the suspect couple was desecrating the Quran and on Sunday caught them red-handed.

Police shifted the suspects to an undisclosed location for further investigation. They claimed the situation was under control and there was no law and order situation.
