‘POA striving for better sports standards, safe environment’

KARACHI: Secretary General Pakistan Olympic Association Muhammad Khalid Mahmood has said that POA is committed to work for the betterment of Olympic sports in Pakistan and is striving for the success of the Prime Minister’s Clean and Green Pakistan campaign in the country and taking practical steps to make the playing fields green as well as the surrounding environment green.

He said the Pakistan Olympic Association and Karachi Sports Foundation would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Karachi later this month regarding the tree plantation campaign in the country. POA President Lieutenant General (retd) Syed Arif Hassan will also attend the MOU signing ceremony.

Khalid expressed these views while addressing a function organized in his honor by the Karachi Sports Foundation at Union Club.

He added that each member of KSF was a hero for making a heroic effort for the provision of free higher education to the young and talented athletes of the country, for spreading the message of green Pakistan through sports and especially for provision of ration, free COVID-19 test facility to the sportsmen. “Their actions were a practical example of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) message of peace, love and unity. The POA stands by the side of Karachi Sports Foundation in this noble cause of service,” he said.

Addressing the event, Dr. Farhan Essa District Governor of Rotary International said “We want to see sports flourishing in Pakistan for which steps are being taken to improve sports infrastructure”.

He said the scope of welfare of sportsmen would be expanded.Later, Dr. Farhan Issa presented a souvenir to Khalid Mahmood on behalf of KSF. Rotary International District Member POA Environment Commission Tehmina Asif, SOA Secretary General Ahmed Rajput, Chairman KSF Asif Azeem, President Syed Wasim Hashmi, Secretary Murad Hussain, Muhammad Nasir, President Sindh Boxing Association Asghar Baloch and other sports personalities were also present.
