Two NGO workers kidnapped in South Waziristan

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Unidentified men kidnapped two employees of a non-governmental organisation, including an engineer, in Makeen area of South Waziristan tribal district on Thursday.

District police officer Shaukat Ali confirmed kidnapping of two employees of Sarhad Rural Support Programme, a government-funded organisation, from Makeen area. He said the NGO workers were coming back to Makeen after inspecting a water supply scheme in Qalandar Kallay. The kidnapped employees have been identified as engineer Taimoor and Shafiullah.

The DPO said the kidnappers were following the employees and stopped their vehicle at gunpoint. Both employees were taken to an unknown location. He said one of the kidnapped men belonged to Mahsud tribe and the other to Gandapur tribe.

The police said that search operation was underway. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons.
