CHARSADDA: A local court on Tuesday remanded in police custody a man arrested on the charges of sexually assaulting and killing a minor girl in Charsadda.

Earlier, the police had produced the accused, Lal Mohammad alias Baddha, 47, in the court and sought his physical remand. The police were given four-day custody of the accused.

The accused was arrested on a lead after he had informed a local prayer leader about the presence of the body of two and a half year old girl in the fields of Jabba Koroona area falling in the limits of Daudzai police station of Peshawar.

The minor girl had gone missing outside her house in Sheikh Kalay area of Charsadda on Oct 6. The body was found the following day.

A medical examination had confirmed the minor girl had been subjected to sexual assault and later stabbed to death.

After getting physical remand of the accused, the police shifted him to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
