LAHORE: A motorcyclist was critically injured from a stray kite string on Canal Road near Muslim Town Morr on Sunday.

Waseem Hussain, 19, was going home to Wahdat Colony on a motorcycle when a stray kite string brushed against his neck near Muslim Town signal on Canal Road. He suffered critical injuries on his face and neck and was taken to Services Hospital where he was discharged after treatment.

Hussain’s family and friends gathered on the spot and protested against the government for failing to control kite flying in the city. His father, Muhammad Hussain, said action should be taken against the people involved in making, selling and flying kites because they were risking the lives of people.

Meanwhile, station house officers of Gulberg, Muslim Town and Ichhra reached the hospital to inquire about the incident. They seemed concerned about establishing where the incident took place and whose jurisdiction the area fell under. Later, it transpired that the area fell under the Gulberg police station.

The policemen managed to get a statement from Hussain’s father that the family did not want any action over the incident as their son was safe.
