They added that as Dr Adil’s vehicle stopped at a shopping centre in Shah Faisal Colony to purchase sweets, armed pillion riders opened indiscriminate fire on them and fled. Dr Adil was shifted to Liaquat National Hospital where he was pronounced as dead on arrival, said spokesperson Anjum Rizvi. His driver, Maqsood Ahmed, was also declared as dead on arrival at JPMC, said Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital.

Maulana Adil’s aide Umair remained unhurt who had left the vehicle to purchase sweets from the shop. Later on, the seminary head’s body was brought to the JPMC to fulfil legal formalities.

Maulana Adil had done PhD in religious studies and had taught in Malaysia also before returning to Karachi a few years ago after the death of his father Maulana Saleemullah, who had remained a student of Darul Uloom Deoband in India.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali shah took notice of the incident and said that some miscreants wanted to sabotage peace in the city. Separately, IGP Sindh Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar sought a detailed report from the Korangi SSP.
