LAHORE: A day after surrendering services of nine senior police officers from Punjab to the Establishment Division Islamabad, seven deputy inspectors general (DIGs) from other provinces have been placed at the disposal of the Punjab government for their postings.

The reshuffle within Punjab continued on Tuesday with eight more officers, including the Lahore operations senior superintendent of police (SSP), transferred and posted. On Monday, 24 police officers in BS-18 and BS-19 were reshuffled by the Punjab government.

Police officers believed that the frequent transfers/postings in senior ranks would have a drastic impact on policing, the ongoing reforms and efforts to curtail crime in Punjab, as the officers from Police Service of Pakistan were concerned over non-provision of security of tenure under the Police Order 2002.

According to a notification, the police officers of BS-20 placed at the disposal of the Punjab government included Agha Yousuf from Balochistan, Shariq Jamal from interior division Islamabad, Munir Masood Marth from National Counter Terrorism Authority Islamabad, Muhammad Yousuf Malik from Balochistan, Sarfraz Ahmad Falki from Islamabad Capital Territory Police, Munir Ahmad Zia Rao from Balochistan and Ahmad Arsalan Malik from National Highways and Motorways Police.

Seven DIGs from other provinces placed at Punjab’s disposal

The official said the services of most of these officers had been surrendered to Islamabad during the tenure of the PML-N in Punjab. Requisitions for these officers had been sent by the Punjab government after consultation with IGP Inam Ghani.

Moreover, the eight police officers reshuffled on Tuesday included Lahore SSP (Operations) Faisal Shahzad who was transferred and posted as the Okara district police officer (DPO) vice Omer Saeed Malik, who was transferred and posted as the Dera Ghazi Khan DPO in the place of Akthar Farooq. Mr Farooq was transferred and directed to report to the Central Police Office (CPO).

Chief coordinator for security/SSP (law and order) to chief minister Punjab, Ghulam Mubashir Maiken, has been transferred and posted as the Sheikhupura DPO vice Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin, who has been transferred and posted as the Punjab assistant inspector general (AIG) (operations) against an existing vacancy.

The IGP made mutual transfers of Sialkot DPO retired Capt Mustansar Feroze and Mianwali DPO Muhammad Hasan Asad Alvi in each other’s district. Awaiting posting, Zahid Nawaz Marwat has been posted as Punjab CPO AIG (inspection) against an existing vacancy.

Cantt Lahore Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Furqan Bilal has been transferred and posted as Gujranwala City division additional SP against an existing vacancy, Elite Force Lahore Deputy Director (Administration) Dr Anoosh Masood Chaudhry has been transferred and posted as the Cantt additional SP (investigation) vice Ali Bin Tariq. Mr Tariq has been transferred and posted as the Kasur SP (investigation) against an existing vacancy.
