KHOST, Sept 24: An insurgent and a prisoner were killed early Saturday after suspected Taliban insurgents stormed a prison and police headquarters in southeastern Khost province, officials said.
They attacked the district headquarters of Ali-Sher with guns and rocket-propelled grenades, blew up a weapons stock and killed a detainee in police custody.
“In last night’s exchange of fire one detainee in police captivity died in the Taliban attack and two soldiers were wounded,” Naqeebullah Asmati, the deputy intelligence director told AFP.
WARRANTS: Meanwhile, an Iraqi judge in the southern city of Basra has issued arrest warrants for two British soldiers for killing a policeman, a top local official told AFP on Saturday.
“The investigative judge in Basra issued an arrest warrant against the two British terrorists on charges of opening fire on two policemen, killing one and wounding the other,” said Mohammed Saadum al-Ebaidi, head of the Basra provincial council.
The two soldiers, who were working undercover and wore Arab dress, were arrested on Monday by police in the wake of what British forces described as a “shooting incident”.
British troops later that day stormed a Basra jail looking for their two men.
A joint British-Iraqi probe is now underway into the incident which also sparked a riot against British forces in the town.—AFP
