Saad helps FBANKZ finish runners-up

KARACHI, Sept 24: Mansoor Baig struck a fighting century but failed to save North Nazimabad-Orangi from narrow nine-run defeat against Federal ‘B’ Area-New Karachi Zone (FBANKZ) on the final day of the Karachi region fixtures in the PCB Inter-district senior cricket championship at TMC ground on Saturday.

Mansoor hit six fours and two sixes in 113 and Faraz Ahmed made 54 with five fours as North Nazimabad-Orangi Zone were dismissed for 308 in 89 overs while chasing 318.

Saad Wasim was architect of his team’s victory as he captured five for 66 in 25 overs. FBANZK finished runners-up behind Liaquatabad-Gulshan Zone.

Liaquatabad-Gulshan Zone (LGZ), who did not feature in the last round of matches, clinched the regional title on a superior run-rate after both FBANKZ ended up with 18 points apiece.

In the second match, Nazimabad-Asifabad Zone beat Old Karachi Zone by 175 runs with off-spinner Iqbal Shaikh claiming six for 64 in 30 overs while leg-spinner Raheel Waris grabbed three cheap wickets in spell of 5.1 overs.
