Kenya recalls Sheikh

NAIROBI, Sept 24: Left-arm spin bowler Mohammed Sheikh was on Friday selected in a 13-man Kenyan squad for the semifinal of the ICC Intercontinental Cup against Bermuda in Namibia next month. The Australian-based spinner is the only notable inclusion in the team that beat hosts Namibia in June in Windhoek to qualify for the Oct 23-25 semifinals.

The 25-year-old Sheikh last played for Kenya in the 1999 World Cup in England as an understudy to the then skipper Asif Karim before leaving for studies in Australia.

Despite the absence through injury of opening batsman Ravindu Shah, the selectors said the team was well balanced to face the challenge of Bermuda, the American regional champions who are coached by former West Indies batsman Gus Logie.
