TOBA TEK SINGH: City Police registered a case against an unidentified man for depriving a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Rs100,000 while impersonating as a bank official.

The suspect introduced himself an employee of the Muslim Town branch of a private bank on phone to Toba Tek Singh DSP Naeem Aziz Sindhu and got transferred Rs100,000 from his account to another account.

In his first information report (FIR), DSP Sindhu said the caller apprised him of his (the DSP’s) biodata of his account in a private bank, including his full name, address, CNIC number and the date of birth.

The caller told the officer that as he was using the digital banking, the bank required some more information about him to make the service more secure.

The complainant gave the caller information. Sometime later, he received an SMS from his bank that Rs 100,000 had been transferred from his account to an account of another bank in Gujranwala.

When the DSP inquired from that branch, he was told that the account was against the name of one Muhammad Bilal with whom he had no relation and his money had been transferred from his account through fraud.

An official said the police were informed that the suspect, Muhammad Ali, the owner of a bakery located on Moongi Road, was selling narcotics. During the raid, police seized more than two kilograms of heroin and arrested Ali. A case has been registered against the suspect.
