TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 19: The World Bank will provide a Rs2 billion loan for the remodelling of Gogera and Jhang branches of irrigation system divisions for which the government departments concerned are making necessary preparations.

This was stated here on Saturday by district Nazim Chaudhry Ashfaq while addressing a meeting.

He said after the completion of the project, the problem of irrigation water shortage would be resolved.

LOUDSPEAKER MISUSE: The Gojra city and Toba city police registered on Saturday cases against two ulema on the charge of misuse of loudspeakers under section 3 of amplifier act.

Both Maulana Sardar Ali of Markazi Jamia Masjid Chak 296-JB, Gojra, and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) leader and prayer leader of Jamia Masjid, Mustafabad, Toba Tek Singh, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor, had delivered speeches on loudspeaker despite the ban on its use. They had yet not been arrested.

Meanwhile, the city police arrested on Saturday three Sunni Barelvi sect activists from Madni Masjid, Siddiq Park. Accused Muhammad Yaqub, Muhammad Haroon and Malik Siraj Din had installed signboards along various roads of the area which drew objections from the people of another sect. They had lodged a complaint in this regard to police.

The city police, in the meantime, shifted 29 religious parties activists which were arrested a few days ago to Faisalabad central jail. Their detention orders were issued by the Punjab home secretary.

They were arrested during crackdown on religious parties after their banning.
