CHAKWAL, Sept 23: The Punjab University authorities have authenticated the matriculation certificate of Lt-Gen (retd) Majeed Malik, who is running for the office of district nazim. According to a copy of the verification letter made available to Dawn, Majeed Malik did his matriculation in 1939 from Government High School Chakwal under roll number 12,912, securing 487 marks.

Mr Malik’s nomination papers had been rejected by the district returning officer after his rival, Sardar Ghulam Abbas, challenged his qualification.

However, Mr Malik challenged the rejection of his papers in the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench. The court is likely to announce the verdict on Saturday.
