LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Sarwar says delay in deployment of the motorway police should be investigated.

“The incidents like the one on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway can’t be stopped without executing the perpetrators,” he said. He admitted that the CCPO should have used words properly in the gang-rape case.

The opposition, he said, could not influence the process of transparent accountability with threats of protests and sit-ins. He said rooting out corruption was necessary to strengthen the country economically.

“There shall be no compromise on accountability without discrimination,” the governor told media persons on Sunday at a ceremony held at Qadhafi Stadium. Businessmen Syed Azmat Ali Shah and Malik Amjad were prominent among the participants.

The governor said the government fully supported accountability and there would be no compromise on this at any cost. The opposition may protest, if it wants to but the PTI government would complete five-year mandate given by the public.

He said the general election would take place on time and government would continue to move forward with economic policies that were being validated by the international organisations.

Answering a question, the governor said the victim of the motorway incident is the daughter of the nation and the Punjab government would utilise all resources to deliver justice.

He said exemplary punishment would be given to the culprits involved in this crime.

The governor said ever since the PTI government had assumed power, the opposition was saying that this government would not complete term but the opposition would only have to face disappointment.

Mr Sarwar said the PTI government had saved Pakistan from economic bankruptcy. He said Pakistan’s economy had suffered due to coronavirus but the government supported millions of distressed families through Ehsaas Programme.

He said the world was praising the smart lockdown policy of Prime Minister Imran Khan and the other countries were replicating Pakistan’s policy to control the spread of coronavirus.

He said Pakistan’s global image was improving and it was making progress on every front.
