ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet on Tuesday approved appointment of Qaisar Alam as new chairman of Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE).

Mr. Alam has been serving as Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar and now, after his new appointment he will likely join the FBISE within a couple of weeks, sources said.

The FBISE has the largest jurisdiction catering to institutions across the country and abroad.

Sources said that the education ministry following competitive process had shortlisted three names and sent to federal cabinet, which approved the name of Qaisar Alam.

“After competitive and transparent process we finalized three names, which were placed before the cabinet for approval. The FBISE is largest education board of the country and I am hopeful that with the new appointment, the performance of the board will see further improvement,” said Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood.

The FBISE Chairman seat fell vacant few months ago after completion of the tenure of Dr Ikram Ali Malik, who during his stay at FBISE, revamped services of board to facilitate students, particularly those living in remote areas.

He had also launched online chat-room, which is reachable from 8am to 12am seven days a week, and state of the art one window operation.

Sources in education ministry said the education ministry would notify the appointment of new chairman after minutes of the cabinet meeting were issued.

Meanwhile, sources said that education ministry after competitive process has also sent three names for the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) secretary Prime Minister Office. The IBCC is umbrella board of all educational boards of the country.
