DADU: Speakers have demanded the federal and provincial governments establish a university in the name of historian, archaeologist, educationist and scholar Taj Mohammad Sehrai in Dadu.
They were speaking at the concluding session of a two-day programme on Monday held in connection with 18th death anniversary of Sehrai organised by the Sindhi Adabi Sangat (SAS) and Society for Researches and Heritages Development (SRHD).
Addressing the programme, Tabish Bukhari said the services of Sehrai towards improvement of education would always be remembered.
Sindh Madressatul Islam University’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Sehrai said the research work by his father Taj Sehrai on Rannikot fort was unique and had such a scholarly depth as none could match.
He said that Sehrai had explored names of its four gates as Sann gate, Shergarh gate, Mohan gate and Amri gate.
He announced that a book would be published on the research conducted by Sehrai on caves of Kai (seven manmade houses on mountains of Nai Naing Sharif) located in Kai village, some 12km from Sehwan.
“Research work on Indus Civilization, Moenjodaro, especially on the historical site of Amri, and other works are remarkable,” said renowned archaeologist Syed Hakim Ali Shah Bukhari.
“Taj Mohammad Sehrai was the first scholar who had written a book The Lake Manchhar,” said Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro VC Dr Prof Mohammad Aslam Uqaili.
Speaking at another programme organised by SAS Dadu chapter, writer and educationist Ali Gohar Soomro said 12 books of Sehrai had been printed and more material related with history and archaeological sites would be printed by the SAS in different languages.
Earlier, Quran khawani was held and food was distributed among people by Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Sehrai. Family members visited the grave of Sehrai at Lal Hindi graveyard and offered Fateha.
Teachers and students of Talibul Maula High School held competitions of quiz, speeches, songs and discussion on the research work by Sehrai.
