Formation of ERA deferred

Published September 22, 2005

ISLAMABAD, Sept 21: The federal cabinet on Wednesday deferred consideration of constituting Education Regulatory Authority (ERA) for the capital city till its next meeting due to absence of Minister for Education Javed Ashraf Qazi.

“The minister is unwell for the last few days, hence could not attend the federal cabinet meeting,” Sajid Hassan, Secretary Education, told Dawn.

Since the setting up of ERA was an important decision to be made by the federal cabinet, therefore, the education minister’s presence was necessary, an other official at the ministry told this reporter.

In response to a question, the official said Mr Qazi was suffering from some heart ailment and would be back in office in the next couple of days. — Staff Reporter
