LAHORE: PML-Q President Shujaat Hussain has said the local body elections should be held on a party basis.

“Our proposal to the government is that local council polls be held on a party basis. Our party will fully participate in it,” he said to party leaders at his residence here on Friday.

The leaders included former Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Tariq Hassan, former MNA Mian Munir, Sheikh Umer Hayat, Faisal Hayat and Afaq Khattak.

On this occasion “fateha khwani” was also held for PML Lawyers Wing Punjab Advocate Alamgir and ex-MPA Rana Ghulam Qadir and father-in-law of Muslim League leader Mian Asad Munir.

Mr Shujaat said the Election Commission along with all political parties should formulate such a code of conduct so that nobody individually could influence the polls.

He said winners of the election should next day visit their opponent candidates to remove bitterness created during the election campaign.

Meanwhile, UAE Ambassador Hamd Obeid Ibrahim Selim Al-Zehbi called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at the Assembly Chambers.

During the meeting, both talked about matters of mutual interest and peace in the region.

The UAE ambassador said Pakistan and the UAE should benefit from each other’s experts in all spheres of life.
