DADU: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) chairman Lt-General Muzammil Hussain on Friday visited Nai Gaaj dam project located towards the west of Dadu district to examine the situation arising out of heavy flooding in the area last week.

He was given a briefing by local officials of Wapda in this regard.

Speaking to the media during the visit, Gen Hussain said that hill torrents from Khirthar mountain range coupled with heavy rainfall did not cause any major damage to the dam’s structure and site. “No major damage was caused to the project although the deluge happened to be many feet high and passed through its course with extreme pressure,” he observed. He revealed that construction work on the dam project would start soon and be completed within two years.

In reply to a question, the Wapda chairman said that PC-I of the Sindh barrage project was being prepared. Once completed, the barrage would help end a shortage of water in Sindh, especially Karachi.
