KARACHI, Sept 18: A three-member committee has been formed to collect samples of potable water from Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas for laboratory analysis. The committee will submit its report to the Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad within a week.

The committee has been formed by Adviser to the CM on Environment and Alternate Energy Mohammad Noman Saigal during a meeting at his office on Sunday after he visited different hospitals to inquire about the health of the victims of contaminated water in Landhi.

Representatives of various NGOs and the officials concerned attended the meeting.

The committee would also collect statistics of the patients suffering from water-borne diseases and admitted at public and private hospitals.

“In the light of the committee’s report, a comprehensive campaign would be launched to get people rid of polluted water by taking into confidence all stakeholders,” Mr Saigal told the meeting.

He directed the officials present to employ all their resources in coordination with the concerned departments to provide safe water to people.—APP
