DERA MURAD JAMALI: Hundreds of landlords and growers protested against shortage of water in tributaries of the main Pat Feeder canal here on Friday.

After gathering in the town, the protesters took to streets of Nasirabad carrying placards inscribed with their demands.

They blocked the traffic on Dera Murad Jamali and Manjho Shori Highway. Maulana Abdul Majeed Jattak, Mir Rustam Rind, Haji Rehmatullah Rind, Mohammad Ali Jattak, Wadera Nasarullah Nachari and others spoke on the occasion. “Inequitable distribution of water in Pat Feeder Canal and its tributaries has turned the green belt of the area into desert,” they said.

The protesters demanded that the Pat Feeder Canal should be handed over to Balochistan Frontier Corps. They said that because of shortage of water not only crops were ruining but animals were also perishing. The demonstrators alleged that thousands of cusecs of water were being stolen through illegal tube-wells and watercourses.
