Sponge on the Run set for VOD release

The animated SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is scheduled to get a video-on-demand release in early 2021.

Featuring a voice cast that includes Tom Kenny, Awkwafina, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass and many others. The cartoon adventure is about what happens when SpongeBob’s pet snail Gary goes missing. After the pay-per-view window closes, the film will then move to ViacomCBS’ subscription streaming service CBS All Access, which will soon be the home of all prior seasons of Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants TV show.

The announcement was made as many movie theatres remain closed and social-distancing practices are in place in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

“What’s love got to do” gets a remix

Tina Turner and Kygo have teamed up on a new remix. The 80-year-old singer and 28-year-old Norwegian DJ and music producer shared a music video recently for their remix of Turner’s 1984 hit song.

The new video is directed by Sarah Bahbah and features actors Laura Harrier and Charles Michael David.

“I couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with Tina Turner, who is an icon that I grew up listening to,” Kygo said in a statement. “‘What’s love got to do with it’ is one of my all-time favourite songs so to have a chance to rework it has been a very special moment in my career.”

Kygo said on Instagram that it was “a dream come true to work on such an iconic track.”

Super Mario Bros. breaks auction record

A sealed copy of 1985 video game Super Mario Bros. set a new world record when it was auctioned for $114,000 — the highest price ever paid for a video game.

Heritage Auctions said the copy of the Nintendo Entertainment System game was considered especially rare because it was part of a short production run with a cardboard hang-tab underneath the plastic, a feature found shortly after Nintendo started using shrink-wrap instead of stickers to steal boxes.

The demand for this game was extremely high. The winning bid of $114,000 set a new record for the sale of a video game, which was previously set by another copy of the same game that sold for $100,150 in February 2019.
