KARACHI, Sept 17: A six-member Indian squad arrived on Saturday to feature in the Pakistan International Seniors tennis championship to be played at the Karachi Gymkhana which started on Saturday.

The Indian players were received at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport by the event’s organisers and officials of the Sindh tennis Association (STA).

India’s top veteran Yogesh leads a list of players who have crossed the border to take part in the championship. Other Indian players who will be taking part in the event are H.N Udani, Ujwal Dessai, Kishore Chaudhry, Pankaj Patel and Ramakrishan Raman.

“I am happy to be in Pakistan again,” said Yogesh Shah who is one of the top veterans in India. “We feel at home here,” said Yogesh who also came for the ITF world ranking seniors tournament in Karachi last year.

Other players from India have come to Pakistan for the first time.

The Indian players will be joined by a host of top Pakistani veterans in the championship which will feature events in the men’s 35 plus, 45 plus and 55 plus categories in both singles and doubles.

The top Pakistani player competing in the championship is former national Rashid Malik.

A former Davis Cupper, Rashid is defending champion in the 35 plus singles.—PPI
