KARACHI: A protest was held against enforced disappearances outside the Karachi Press Club on Sunday demanding early recovery of the ‘missing’ persons.

A large number of people including children and women carried portraits of their near and dear ones and urged the authorities to safely recover them.

The speakers demanded all ‘missing’ Shia persons should be presented before the courts so that they could defend themselves.

They observed that the families of missing persons were facing immense economic difficulties to the extent that even their children could not continue their studies.

Representative of Joint Action Committee of Shia Missing Persons Allama Mubashir Hasan said that they had been protesting for last several years and it was the responsibility of the government and powerful institutions to provide justice to their families.

He said the deadline issued by the government for safe return of the missing persons had already passed but none of the missing persons had returned home.

He regretted that President Arif Alvi had assured of the safe recovery of the missing persons but his promises remained unmet.
