LAKKI MARWAT: A proclaimed offender was killed and a policeman was injured during an exchange of fire in Naurang town, police said on Saturday.

An official said Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police raided a place near Kurrum River in Nasirkhel village on a tip-off about presence of wanted men there. The cops came under attack by criminals when they neared the hideout.

The official said the outlaws also hurled a hand grenade on policemen which exploded with a bang, injuring constable, Asif Khan.

Police retaliated the attack, and an exchange of fire continued. Later, the cops entered the hideout and found the body of a proclaimed offender named Jamil Khan. The policemen seized an assault rifle, spare magazines and bullets from the place and shifted the body to hospital.

The official said other members of the gang escaped.

The killed outlaw was wanted by police in murder, attempted murder and other cases.

The police registered a case.

In Tajori town, police arrested two outlaws in injured condition after an exchange of fire on a road leading to Khankhel Bitanni area on Friday night.

The injured were named Mohammad Rehman and Naseer Mohammad, while their third accomplices, Shah Fahad, escaped on motorcycle, the police official said, adding the law enforcers seized two assault rifles, a hand grenade and bullets from the arrested men and registered a case.
