RAWALPINDI: A man and his wife were arrested for allegedly physically assaulting the man’s elderly mother after a video of the assault was circulated on social media.

The couple were granted bail by the court until Aug 6.

According to police, the couple live separately and had visited the man’s parents in Dhoke Ali Akbar in Sadiqabad.

Upon reaching their house, the man’s wife and his sister began arguing and the man intervened. He and his wife then allegedly beat his mother.

Someone in the house recorded the assault and posted it online. Shortly after the video went viral, Regional Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik and City Police Officer Mohammad Ahsan Younis ordered the registration of a case and arrested the couple.

The victim was also taken to a hospital for a medical examination.

The police registered an FIR on her complaint, in which she said that her son and his wife pushed her and beat her on Tuesday.

The Sadiqabad station house officer said the incident appeared to be over a domestic matter, but the cause would be determined after an investigation.

The police also later released a video of the man apologising to his mother.
